Do you think society puts too much pressure on people to be in relationships and/or have children? Do you think this ostracizes people who would be perfectly content to remain single and/or child-free? Is this pressure worse around the holidays?

Abso-fucking-lutely.

There are so many things wrong with the pressure to get married and have kids - first, society is mandating one way to live a happy, successful life; secondly, we don't need more people on the planet; thirdly, a kid is a huge investment of time and energy that no everyone wants to make and forcing them to make it is just going to screw up their children.

For years I said I didn't want kids and I am so grateful that no one ever told me 'Oh, you'll change your mind.' Sure, I did, but it wasn't written in stone that I would. And no one should think about what they do or don't want and be told that they'll change their mind or see the light or that they're being selfish for not picking one specific option.

It's not selfish to not create a child that isn't wanted. (Double negative, I know.)

And having a kid just so someone will take care of you when you're old is a terrible reason to have children and a rationalization that comes up a lot.

What I really like about this season and what makes it so different than the first one is a.) we're seeing the possible benefits of the Dollhouse, so it's much more believable that people would get sucked into working for the Rossum corporation. Secondly, NO ONE is given any slack at this point. Every moral failing and ethical shame is ripped open for the viewer. That's what's most interesting for me - watching these people who I empathize with being unflinchingly portrayed as not-very-nice people.

Okay, having Perrin be a sort-of doll was a legitimate surprise. Although every time he speaks I think it sounds weird that he doesn't have an english accent.

Summer Glau was amazing. She does the best broken-doll type characters ever, and loved her struggles with 'should'.

Also, there is something incredibly retro about villainy being paired with a dead hand, plaid skirts, and librarian glasses.

Which leads me to Topher.

They were so adorable together! She checked her hair! She thought he was pink like a pig! He checked to see if she was a doll or not! She was like 'of course I can't be a doll, because I am not pretty enough,' and Topher was like 'I am geeking out about you with myself in a different body!'

(Tangent: Victor's actor is getting all the good imprints this season. He must be having a ball. Although now that I think about it, I think Sierra being Topher would have been *even better*).

But I must admit, I really, really disliked Topher hitting her later. First, because there is WAY THE HELL too many instances of women getting hit by men in this show, and also because a.) I doubt Topher's ability to hit anyone in the face hard enough to knock them out, much less a
a tranq gun *right there*. Topher drugging her makes WAY more sense with his character type than hitting her does.

Also, that scene where Perrin and Echo cut their strips out was probably a dream come true for Faith/Wesley shippers.

deWitte acting all seductive and then practically ripping that guys balls off was also fine. Doesn't EVERYBODY know by know that you never play poker with Adelle ESPECIALLY when you think you have the upper hand? Fool.

I feel really sorry for Madeline. But I must say, I am VERY glad that her story is continuing and she wasn't just written off the show to make Echo/Ballard easier.

ETA: I am not sure how I feel about Bennet having a history with Echo/Caroline. On the one hand, we don't know enough about Caroline to cry retcon.... on the other hand, in the flashback 'Caroline' was acting quite imprinted, and it just... they seem to be gilding the lily a bit with her character.

Firefly. Simply for it's consistent awesome and characters that I love. This show is so well written that it's one of the hardest fandoms to fic I have ever known.

Buffy. Problems with the final seasons aside, no one can say that the characters were static. Well, except for Xander.

Wonderfalls.

I'm going to have to go with Wonderfalls again.

2x03 (which I watched first, because I was told I should): creepy teacher is creepy! So very creepy! My skin was literally creeping every time he was on screen! I almost cheered when he got stabbed in the neck. And was so sorry to see him still moving. I'm going to pretend he blend out on that beige carpet.

I liked the serial killer plotline, and Victor-as-Kiki was pretty hilarious.

2x02 It's good to see November again. I can't imagine making a woman lactate would be the difficult, and I hate hate hated the whole 'nothing is stronger than maternal instinct.'

2x04 Okay, Victor and Sierra are so adorable it's painful. Literally. Back when he was imprinted and she was a real girl they loved it other! I really like Priya original personality. And frankly, I think Topher's crisis of conscience ended pretty well given that evil raping rapist got his ass stabbed. Although Priya/Sierra was so upset about it that I couldn't properly enjoy that fight. I can't believe Topher (who did excellent kicked puppy this episode) didn't give her default kung fu skillz. Like, what the hell, Topher.

In Which Adelle's Haircut Is The Most Problematic Part Of The Episode

Okay, Whiskey/Saunders' arc? I loved it. Amy Acker was amazing as Saunders cracked and broke apart. Her conversation with Echo was probably the best of it - that moment when we don't know if she's going to slash Echo's face up and then she has a lollipop in her hand... a lollipop which she bitchily puts in her mouth.

Her conversation with Topher was similarly epic. I'd quote the whole thing, but that line in the end about Saunders not wanting to die, and thus not wanting to learn who Whiskey used to be made her whole crisis make perfect sense.

On the subject of Topher: Oh. My. God. I never thought I would give a tinker's damn about that character, but now I'm am EMPATHIZING WITH HIM.

Just... let's just think for a moment about the fact that he lives in a BASEMENT. A freaking basement. He leaves the plush Dollhouse to go sleep on a mattress with his underwear having over his head. The levels of protections that he put in Saunders head to make sure nothing happened between them- that he smelled bad to her, that she disagreed with him (which also shows a humility I would not have ever expected) does hint at a deep level of self-loathing.

The writers FINALLY managed to give Echo some agency; I'm looking forward to seeing her crack and exist in layers as time goes by. I'm also pleased that they're being much more aware about how creepy Ballard's obsession with her is.

Also, I found Sierra's racist, pervy english woman imprint HYSTERICAL.

Sarah of Labyrinth and Christine of The Phantom of the Opera are college roommates. They must deal with their stalker exes, studying for finals, dates, and cameos from everyone from James Norrington, Monsieur Javert, Howl and Sophie, Aziraphale and Crowley (also, regarding their argument on fanservice, I'm going to have to side with Crowley - put up or shut up, Aziraphale).

This webcomic had me laughing out loud as I read and totally screwed up my homework planes for the day.

This is a Draco/Neville fic.

Yeah, I'll give you a moment to process that I, redbrunja , not only read slash, but found it so good, that I immediately started to reread it once I had finished the first time.

This involves a marriage of convenience, Lucius being vicious, Neville having broad shoulders and Draco learning to cook. It has a pitch-perfect Neville, who works three times as hard as anyone else just to be at the same place as Potter and Weasley and the slow growth of the relationship between Neville and Draco is nicely done and revealed in interesting ways.

So Ten Inch Hero has been on my to-watch list since I read a transcript of this scene:

knowing that Jensen Ackles would be playing Priestly. WARNING: this is the second best scene in the movie.

The VERY best scene in the movie revolves around the character played by Clea Duvall being revealed not as a virgin - but as a girl who has never had an orgasm (she's a virgin, too, but what her friends decide needs to change is her non-orgasm-savvy status). Therein fallows a scene in which Clea Duvall's character is in her bedroom with a vibrator while her two BFFs wait outside and shout advice in through the door.

Also, I know that if you're going to have Jensen fucking Ackles in your movie you want to use him to the fullest (insert joke here) but in the end when he cleaned up, he was so pretty he was actually distracting. Plus I wanted Tish to go out with someone who DIDN'T look exactly like all the other handsome jerks she was used to dating.

Okay, so the Literary Review has a Bad Sex In Fiction Award that is an attempt to: 'draw attention to the crude, tasteless, often perfunctory use of redundant passages of sexual description in the modern novel, and to discourage it'.

The best, and by 'best' I mean most atrocious (imho) is this one:

The green cock plunged in and out of the abundant naked body sprawled beneath it, slow at first, then faster and harder, then harder still, and all of Tracy's curves and hollows moved in unison with it. This was not soft porn. This was no longer two unclothed women caressing and kissing on a bed. There was something primitive about it now, this woman-on-woman violence, as though, in the room filled with shadows, Pegeen were a magical composite of shaman, acrobat, and animal. Defile her.' She took Tracy by one shoulder, whispered 'Time to change masters,' and gently rolled the stranger's large, warm body toward his.

Back when I was a freshmen, I read a delightfully creepy short story about a puppeteer who falls in love with a beautiful doll. After one performance, he thinks she looks almost alive, gives her a kiss..... and she stabs him with her epic, plum-colored fingernails and sucks the life out of him.

Okay, I absolutely loved this episode. Joss Whedon should always do semi-dystopic futures. This episode was everything that I wanted Dollhouse to be, everything I wanted to see on my tv screen when I tuned in.

We had Echo being self-aware and holding multiple imprints in her head! We had her and Ballard wroking together! We had Adelle pwning everyone with her awesome, as per usual! We had Adelle being maternal and comforting with Topher! We had Topher being crazy and guilt-ridden! (Seriously, I actually cared about him it was VERY unusual). We had Sierra/Victor! We had Saunders/Boyt! Every single women we saw in this episode had agency!

Allow me to repeat: Every single women we saw in this episode had agency!

The A-plot with Felicia Day was also interesting and pulled from some of Firefly's tropes - the reavers, the small-rag-tag band at the ends of the world.
