Okay, over on the Naruto what-if meme someone asked the question, "What if Kishi actually decided to make Sasuke and Naruto a couple at the end of the manga? Would fandom explode? How would this be seen by different cultures/the media (Naruto is a fairly popular manga)? Would this affect the way kids veiw gay couples at all?"

My instinctive thought was 'they wouldn't get it.' I think a lot of the casual, non fandom readers of Naruto would be REALLY confused and I would bet money on the American and Japanese parents flipping the fuck out.

However, what I'm pondering is whether or not having Naruto and Sasuke being gay for each other would change some children's perceptions about homosexuals. Would it make them more accepting? Would they start to see gay people as human beings who deserves the same rights everyone else does?

As most of you are aware, I stopped reading the Naruto manga a while ago (my friday morning are SO much more enjoyable now).

But I'm still pissed at Kishimoto for something.

And that's for ruining female characters with traditionally female strengths for me.

And also girl on girl fights.

I wish I was kidding.

I find out that Harry Dresden's apprentice, Molly, is a sensitive and better at mental magic (as in, she's god and your brain is clay) and I twitch. In a series with Karrin Murphy (poster girl for Badass Normal), Elaine (almost Harry's equal at raw power, better at delicate work, blew the side off a building because she was pissed), FREAKING LARA WRAITH, badass Warden Captain Luccio, and Susan who started as a scrappy reporter and took a level in badass to dhampir.

One secondary female who's a sensitive and I have to run through the above list to make sure Butcher's on the right side of how what I like to call 'The Black Lagoon Line'.

Fiona gets into a fight with some bitchy conwoman and instead of enjoying two girls in bikinis punching each other in the face, I have to mentally tabulate every badass thing Fiona has done (disarming a mugger and hitting him with his own gun, driving off two carload of killers with Molotov cocktails she made in under two minutes, blowing up a car, blowing up a car, blowing up a car, blowing up a truck, tasering a guy, basically tasering herself to drop another guy, knocking someone out with a snow globe, disarming an armed forger with her shoe) before I can relax and enjoy the fight scene that at this point, is over.

God only knows what my reaction to Katara would be at this point.

In summation: Fuck you, Kishimoto.

*randomly, I read a short-story by Jim Butcher on-line and I'm so disappointed that Murphy's first encounter with the supernatural involved Harry. So very disappointed.

 Okay, whoever commented that the Epic of Gilgamesh would make a great slash movie nailed it. It has everything! Two more-special-than-you boys, their close friendship and ambiguous descriptions thereof, the slutty, evil woman who wants Gilgamesh's ass and is subsequently destroyed.

Seriously, it was like reading a Naruto/Sasuke fanfic with bonus ooc!Sakura for English credit.

I have meaning to do this picspam for years, I swear.

Speaking of icons, I am convinced that the girl in my new default is girl!Sai. Ah, Sai. Another character that would have been beyond awesome if he had been a she. Also, after staying up until three to finish a Snape/Hermione fic, I find myself longing for a good Draco/Hermione icon. Because that's how I'm wired. It's the hands that make this. How Sakura has her fist clenched and Sai is oh so lightly touching her hip.

So, my mom and I are giving Gargoyles a rewatch. It's almost as good as Avatar in the made-for-children, good-enough-for-adults way and I remember an insane amount of detail from when I first watched it at eight. Like, I remember specific scenes in great detail. It's really fun watching it with my mother, who has quite the eye for little details. "Why doesn't he just through that guy off the castle? Why do all the bad guys keep missing when they shoot?" Me: "Children's cartoon mom, children's cartoon.
